Fylde Coast Youth Dance Company
Fylde Coast Youth Dance Company (FCYDC) are a contemporary youth dance company from Blackpool and the Fylde Coast aged 11-19 years. The company audition for members once a year and focus on developing creative practice and performance skills within the contemporary dance sector.
They work with professional dancers and companies throughout the year and aim to create exciting and innovative performance works to be showcased at local events and regional dance platforms. The company runs differently to other dance classes; it follows the process a professional dance company would take in developing dancers and producing performance work. It supports dancers individually and collectively and nurtures their skills and talent to support them to continue in the arts as a career.
The company works intensively with the dancers, mentoring them to become strong individuals with a wide range of transferable skills. The company celebrates and utilises contemporary dance processes which allow dancers to develop movement that is new innovative and bespoke to them. The performance work that is made by the company allows the dancers to develop analytical, reasoning and decision making skills.
The company make 2-3 performance pieces per year, taking a lead role in the choreographic development of the work, making decisions, organising and teaching their movement material to other dancers. These performances are then performed at prestigious venues across the North West and beyond including Winter Gardens, Tower Ballroom, The Lowry (Salford), The Dukes Theatre (Lancaster), The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) and The Birmingham Hippodrome. The process of arriving at a venue, taking part in a technical rehearsal, meeting other young dance companies, taking part in dance workshops and performing on stage often occurs at the events they attend and allows company members to represent themselves, the company and the town, celebrating their talents ona wider stage.
